Story: Ban San Pa Sark Village Ban Pa Sark is an Akha village located at about 250 kilometer northeast of Chiang Mai city. The village has 80 households with a total population of 250 persons, 190 female and 60 male. The population is composed of 15% Christian, 25% Aminist and 60% Buddhist. 20 percent are illiterate, 90% understand Thai and less than 40% can write.
Majority households have not enough land for cultivation, only 25% of the whole villagers have land for agriculture and wages of labor is the main source of income for the village. Beginning of 2006 the village women requested Thai Tribal Crafts to help them, and we surveyed the village in July 2006 and decided to help the women by providing work of making embroidery pieces which we use to make several products, such as Purses, Bags of different sizes and design of export quality. There are 13 women with whom we are working now.
