Story:
Ban Pang Mapha Village
Most of the Lisu in Thailand live in Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Mae Hong Son; and about 10% scattered in other five northern provinces. They traditionally supported their families by engaging in slash-and-burn agriculture, but need now other sources of income as the old way of agriculture is no more possible.
TTC has started to work with the Lisu artisans at Pang Mapha village in early 2004. This village is about 80 kilometer away from northwest of Chiang Mai situated in Pang Mapha district of Mae Hong Son province. They make beautiful patchwork pieces decorated on a wide variety of bags and purses. There are 25 producers, all women.
