Story:
Ban Kot Pa Bong Village
Kot Pa Bong is the Lahu Sheh Leh Christian village located in Chiang Dao district, Chiang Mai province, about 95 kilometers away from Chiang Mai city. The village has 100 households with a population 458 people. TTC started working with the artisans in this village in early 1990s and the village could be reached by vehicle in dry season only then but the road has been improved since 2004 and it is reachable in all seasons now.
Each household has a limited size of land that they can grow rice, corn and beans but the produce is not enough for all year round. Crafts making is important for the villagers because income from sales of their crafts helps the cash flow of the families.
The items made by these artisans includes traditional Lahu Flint Bag, Embroidered Shoulder Bags and Bamboo Jews Harp. Currently there are 29 producers (25 women & 4 men) . The number of producers keep changing depending on the volume of orders available.
