Lisu doll
If you are looking for a gift or a traditional item of Thailand, this doll will be the perfect product! This unique handcrafted doll is a product from the range offered by Thai Tribal Crafts, a self-help marketing agency established in 1973 with the main goal to provide opportunities for improving the quality of life of the tribal people in Northern Thailand.
This doll has been crafted in the New Life Center. Thai Tribal Crafts supports the programs of this center, whose goal is to welcome tribal girls and give them education and training. Indeed, the girls go to school where they can learn to read and write their own language, and learn new skills such as weaving, sewing and embroidery.
These dolls are dressed with the traditional Lisu outfits, still worn in the villages. The Lisu have about 28,000 members living in Thailand, and other Lisu live in China and Burma.
The people of this tribe make vibrant colored patchwork cloth items. The traditional outfit is made with machine-made cotton or synthetic material. Lisu women wear a blue or green tunic, decorated with many bands of cloth of many bright colours. Under this tunic, they wear knee-length pants and red leggings. Men wear a black jacket, blue or green pants and black leggings.
When you buy this handcraft, about 60% of its price goes to the women of the New Life Center. You will appreciate having this doll, and at the same time have the satisfaction of knowing that this purchase will help the women to raise their standards of living.
