Lahu Traditional Shoulder Bag
This handcrafted traditional shoulder bag is a product from the range offered by Thai Tribal Crafts, a self-help marketing agency established in Chiang Mai since 1973 with the main goal to provide opportunities for improving the quality of life of the tribal people in Northern Thailand.
This bag has been entirely crafted in the Lahu tribal community. The Lahu have about 73,500 people living in northern Thailand. The Lahu women do unusual weaving and patch work trims while the men are skilled in producing musical instruments and other items from bamboo.
These bags are used by the Lahu people and reflect some of the traditional patterns used to decorate the traditional products. Lahu people weave cloth using back-strap and foot-treadle looms. Then, the cloth is decorated, with patchwork appliqu?, embroidery, bands of cloth or silver buttons.
