Lahu Flint Bag
This unique handcrafted flint bag will soon become a necessary accessory in your everyday life! It is a product from the range offered by Thai Tribal Crafts, a self-help marketing agency established in 1973 with the main goal to provide opportunities for improving the quality of life of the tribal people in Northern Thailand.
We carry a wide range of Lahu flint bags, with various patterns and colours, various sizes and different raw materials. All patterns have been crafted in the Lahu tribal community. The Lahu have about 73,500 people living in Northern Thailand. The Lahu women do unusual weaving and patch work trims while the men are skilled in producing musical instruments and other items from bamboo.
Lahu people traditionally grew their own cotton, but this activity is no more possible due to the land limitation: nowadays, they purchase it at the market. Then, they weave cloth using back-strap and foot-treadle looms. Finally, the cloth is decorated, with various techniques: patch-work appliqu?, embroidery, bands of cloth or silver buttons.
After the production of the traditional pattern in the village, raw materials are given to women in Chiang Mai who assemble the cloths and materials and finish the products. This process of production with skilled and trained men and women at each step ensures high-quality products.
When you buy this handcraft, 60% of its price goes to the craftsmen. You will enjoy the use of this flint bag and its quality, and you will have at the same time the satisfaction of knowing that this purchase will help the tribe to raise its standard of living.
