Karen Book Cover
This original book cover will soon become a necessary accessory of your readings. Moreover, you will be satisfied to know that you helped Thai Tribal Crafts, a self-help marketing agency established in 1973 with the main goal to provide opportunities for improving the quality of life of the tribal people in Northern Thailand.
This cover has been woven in the Karen tribal community. The Karen, also called "Kariang" or "Yang", are the largest tribal group living in Thailand. Sgaw and Pwo Karen, the two major divisions of the group, number about 321,900 people. Karen women are noted for their weaving, and men are skilled in making basketry. Karen still spin thread from their own cotton, and then weave it on simple back-strap looms.
This cover, entirely crafted in one of the Karen villages by skilled women, reflects the traditional woven patterns of this tribal group.
When you buy this handcraft, 60% of its price goes to the craftsmen. You will enjoy the use of this book cover and its quality, and while reading have the satisfaction of knowing that this purchase will help the tribe to raise its standard of living.
