Lawa Earrings
These earrings are products from the range offered by Thai Tribal Crafts, a self-help marketing agency established in 1973 with the main goal to provide opportunities for improving the quality of life of the tribal people in Northern Thailand.
They have been crafted in the Lawa tribal community. The Lawa have about 16,000 people living in villages in two provinces in the north of Thailand. They traditionally supported their family by engaging in agriculture, but need now other sources of income. As Lawa people are very skilled in silver work, the jewelry production enables them to support their families, and helps to restore and revive their traditional craft work.
In every village, silversmiths play an important role; most of them are very skilled in producing coins, pipes, tobacco boxes and of course jewelry. In the villages, silver is also often used to measure the value of things. Lawa women wear many silver bracelets, neck rings, hair ornaments and earrings.
When you buy this handcraft, 60% of its price goes to the craftsman. You will enjoy the use of these beautiful high-quality earrings, and at the same time having the satisfaction of knowing that this purchase will help the tribe to raise its standard of living.
