Two Lahu handbags exist in the range offered by Thai Tribal Crafts, a self-help marketing agency established in 1973 with the main goal to provide opportunities for improving the quality of life of the tribal people in Northern Thailand.

These items have been crafted in the Lahu tribal community. The Lahu have approximately 73,500 people living in Thailand. The women do unusual weaving and patchwork trims while the men produce musical instruments and other items from bamboo. Handicraft production enables them to support their families, and helps to restore and revive their traditional craft work.

These handbags are made with bamboo. The Lahu have a good reputation as baskets makers: their baskets, used for carrying cooked rice or weaving supplies, are popular among other tribal people. They also use some baskets for the storage of clothes or food.
